Planning the palette and finalizing the selection of papers for my visual art journal of five accordion style hardcover books.
The book covers and end papers were finished after all five books were made in order to tie the colour scheme together and add some collage elements that fit the theme.
Book Cover Preparation
I use Peterboro PK5 illustration board for book covers which is a double thickness and does not warp.
Finished Artwork
There was a loosely Victorian theme for this, and since the Victorians were fond of Japanese art, I used some lovely Japanese woodcuts to embellish the covers.
The time to complete these five books was about 20 to 25 hours, plus many more hours to press and dry after gluing.
The four smaller journals have 14 pages plus two endpapers, and the larger journal has 22 pages plus two endpapers. I am doing random sketches and studies while practicing my calligraphy with gold ink in this one.
