Journals

These handmade accordion books were created with fine art paper of archival quality and firm non-warping illustration board. See my Books/Journals page for more information.

The paper is ideal for dry media like pastel, coloured pencils, chalk, and charcoal. I have also used a dip pen and gold ink and gel medium for collage, and archival permanent markers on the paper with no problems.

The outer measurement of each journal is:
 91 mm x 167 mm
(3 5/8 x 11/16 inches)

The inner pages measure:
76 mm x 153 mm
(3 x 6 inches)

The covers are collaged with antique Japanese woodcuts and various papers. The back covers are collaged over the navy blue satin ribbon, which is embedded in the board so that it won't pull out.

These would make a handsome set of four, or each would make a nice individual journal for a particular theme.

There are 14 pages plus 2 endpapers for a total of 16 pages. You can use both sides of the paper depending on the media you use.

I have found this a perfect size for a thematic treatment or a journal of a holiday. You can glue pockets to pages and keep ephemera from your holiday in them with some notes and salient artwork to pull the book together and make a charming memory.

Tarot Bags

Over the years I have made about 90 custom one-of-a-kind tarot bags for customers. As well as patchwork and silk ribbon embroidery, I also do fabric painting and wirework, hand-dyeing, and beading for the bags depending on the theme. They are fully lined with high-quality quilting cotton and have beautiful silky, rayon drawstrings.

You can see further examples of my tarot bags on both of my Gallery pages.

This was a series of five that I recently completed. The red one has sold, but descriptions and pictures of the remaining four bags follow.

"French Country Pond"
- $42 CAD

Navy blue cotton velvet bag with appliquéd blue and yellow patchwork featuring flowers and stylized fish in water. Embroidered flowers and leaves of hand-dyed silk ribbon and silk floss. Interior is lined with a gorgeous blue and yellow print reminiscent of fabric from Provencal. The navy drawstring features wood, glass, and brass tube beads. This is an elegant bag with a deep, richly-coloured base and the sheen of sun and silk and bright summer days.
"Earthen Harvest"
- $42 CAD

Dark violet-coloured cotton velvet bag with rich fabrics of gold, purple, fuchsia, and peach in the accompanying appliquéd patchwork. The hand-dyed silk ribbon and silk floss embroidery complements the patchwork with similar colours and accents of hunter green and emerald leaves. The deep wine-coloured cotton lining blends together the outer fabric and the violet drawstring with copper tube beads, marbled FIMO beads, and dark blue wooden beads. This is a handsome, richly saturated combination of materials.

"Dragonfly Grotto"
- $42 CAD

Dark forest green cotton velvet with appliquéd patchwork in teal, lime, royal blue, and pink and a central fabric that features a dragonfly highlighted with gold ink. The silk ribbon and silk floss flowers are predominantly peach, pink, blue and green with a pewter dragonfly charm nestled among them. The lining is the same lime green fabric used in the patchwork. The pale green drawstring has wooden beads and FIMO beads along with etched pewter-like beads, all accented with a delightful cloisonné fish. What grotto would be complete without a small pond, running water, and a beautiful fish?
"High Summer Garden"
- $42 CAD

Against black cotton velvet lies an appliquéd patchwork done in burgundy, blue, teal, and pink jewel tones. Shimmering with the colours of summer are hand-dyed silk ribbon and silk floss flowers of peach, violet, gold, and purple with blue and green accents. The black drawstring has wooden and pewter beads and a cloisonné fish to leap about the pond. The lining is an ivory and blue toile fabric that captures the feeling of high summer in the garden with the changing light and shadows of overhanging trees, and their graceful tracery.
